Paragliding is the best option to get involved in some air adventures.
Paragliding is basically a combination of skydiving and hang gliding.
Paragliding is a modern aero sport, which takes one to the world of
adventure. The origin of Paragliding going back to 1940s when Dr. Francis
Rogalo, an aviation pioneer, constructed his flexible Delta Kite. Until
the early 1980s, paragliding was not popular, since then, this aero sport
has gained popularity. Today thousands of people across the world like
this convenient and safe medium of flying high in the air. There is a
little difference between Paragliding and Parasailing, as parasailing is
done on the beach while for paragliding the launch sites are usually the
hill sides. A para-glider is much lighter, much easier to open up and
takes little time than a hang-glider or parachute. It is aerodynamic and
designed to go up rather than down. The paragliding needs some basic
training and the will to touch the soar high in the skies.

Paragliding in Himachal Pradesh
In
Himachal Pradesh Billing is a popular Paragliding site, which offer the
breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar mountains.
Solang is a good site for beginners, while Bijli Mahadev is a fantastic
site for hill launching. This region can be reached from Kullu and landing
can be make at Bhuntar airport. Bandha ridge, near Bilasput at an altitude
of 2,600 ft, is another famous site.
Other famous paragliding sites are Lahaul & Spiti, Arhaul-Anu near
Rohru and Garhalla Talab at Chopal in Shimla district.
Paragliding in Uttaranchal
Garhwal in Uttaranchal is renowned paragliding site. The Great Himalayas
in North and the Terai region plains in the south, makes Garhwal a
paraglider's paradise. Garhwal is the excellent destination for both
professional and amateur para gliders. In Garhwal the Joy rides as well as
training courses are available for Paragliding. Other popular gliding
sites are Naukutchiyatal in Nainital, Dayara Bugyal, Pratap Nagar,
Dhanolti Ridge in Garhwal and Bedni Bugyal in Kumaon.
Paragliding in Maharashtra
The Western Ghat hill range, which run almost unbroken in Maharashtra
offer excellent paragliding opportunities. The region around Mumbai and
Pune are considered best for paragliding. Other famous paragliding areas
in Maharashtra include Matheran, Deolali, Mahabaleshwar, Singhgad and
Panchgani.
Paragliding in Rajasthan
The royal state of Rajasthan also offers paragliding opportunities as the
state has many runways and strips. With prior permission from civil
aviation authorities, the paragliding may be organised in cities of
Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bikaner and Kota.
Essentials for Paragliding
A
glider must be physically fit and he should not try to make too many
stunts in the air. The glider should know the basic technique of
paragliding which include -launching, turning and landing. The essentials
equipments comprises a glider, which must be able to provide resistance to
thermal currents and retard the rate of descent, a harness that attaches
the paraglider firmly and safely to the glider. The para-glider should be
designed in such a way that it can be removed quickly to avoid injury, by
dragging the glider over the ground after landing. Other requirements are
a helmet, a reverse parachute and a variometer to gauge the ascent and
descent of the glider. For those who cannot afford the costly equipments
or do not have time to learn gliding, there is a good alternative for
them. They can sit along with an experienced glider in a Tandem Glider, a
two-seater glider, and enjoy the thrill of paragliding.
Best Time for Paragliding
India has a varied topography, the paragliding regions have different
climatic conditions. The varied climatic conditions offer plenty of
paragliding opportunities throughout the year.
