Tamil Nadu Beaches
The South Indian state of Tamil
Nadu has 900 Kms long coastline. Situated at the coast of Bay of
Bengal, the state is popular for its charming beaches. Tamil Nadu is
famous worldwide for its Marina Beach, which is the second largest beach
in world. Tamil Nadu beaches have many good locations for leisure
activites such as sun bathing, wind surfing and rides on motorized boats.
The golden sandy beaches are fringed with palm and casuarina trees. The
cool sea waters and clear blue skies prodvide the mystic beauty to the
beaches. Besides there are numerous must visit places near the beaches,
which attract the tourists.

Marina Beach
The
beach located in Chennai is one of the most famous beaches of world. The
loveliest beach of India, situated close to Bay of Bengal, draws a large
number visitors who come to spend their holiday. The golden sand,
shimmering clean blue sea water and enough adventure activities of the
beach attract the beach lovers. Marina Beach is popular for its awesome
sunsets and sunrises. As the undercurrent of the sea is very strong, so
bathing and swimming can be dangerous here. In the evenings the beach
appears like a virtual fair, as several kinds of entertainment and food
stalls lining the beach. Other attractions are the buildings of the Senate
House of the University of Chennai, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College,
Government offices and Ice House.
Covelong Beach
Located at a distance of 40 Kms from Chennai, Covelong Beach is far from
the busy city life. The magical Covelong beach is a perfect destination
for beach holiday. Covelong beach provides a fine breathing space and
offers enough fishing activities. The tourists can enjoy numerous sports
activities such as wind surfing, swimming and other water sports. Besides,
the beach, Cavelong houses many forts, churches and mosques.
Kanyakumari Beach
Kanyakumari, India's land end, is a unique beach site, because it is
surrounded by three seas, the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea.
Kanyakumari beach has unique multicolured sand streches along the sea
shore. The beach is famous for breathtaking views of the sunrise and
sunset. In addition to the beach, other attractions are Gandhi Mandapam,
the Swami Vivekananda Memorial and Kayakumari Amman Temple.
Rameshwaram Beach
Rameshwaram is an island, located off the mainland flanked by Palk Strait
and the Gulf of Mannar. The island with a serene beach is also one of the
most famous pilgrimage centres of South India. The legend says that it is
from here the Lord Sri Rama constrcuted the mytholigical bridge to Sri
Lanka. The calm beach and shallo water is perfect for sunbathing and
swimming.

Mahabalipuram Beach
Situated 58 Kms south of Chennai, Mahabalipuram Beach is one of famous
beaches in India. The clean beaches of Mahabalipura attracts a large
number of tourists. The tourist can sunbathe, realx and unwinde themselves
in the charming Mahabalipuram Beach. The city nestled on the coast of the
Bay of Bengal was once the capital of Pallava Dynasty. The Pallava rulers,
built many magnificent monuments here, which were inspired from the
Dravidian Temple architecture. Major attrractions near the beah are the
Shore temple, Rathas, Arjuna's penance, acrocodile farm, snake venom
extracting centre, schools of art and sculpture.
Muttukkadu Beach
Muttukkadu beach located abour 36 Kms from Chennai, is known for its
backwater and estuary. The tourists can ride motorboats or enjoy wind
surfing, fishing and angling.

Mandapam Beach
Mandapam is the mainland, linked with the Rameswaram Island. The
unspoiled calm bach is ideal for sunbathe and surfing.
Kurusadai Island Beach
The beach is famous for its coral reefs and rare marine species like
Dolphins. The prior persmission is required from the Fisheries
Department in Chennai to visit the Island.
Vattakotai Beach : Situated 6 Kms from Kanyakumari, the circular
serene beach is a fine picnic spot. The beach dotted with coconut
trees is ideal for relaxing.
