About the Desert Festival Rajasthan
The Desert Festival one of the most important festivals of Rajasthan, is
held every year in the month of January-February. The golden city of
Jaisalmer, situated on the fringe of the Thar Desert, comes alive with the
fantastic color, music and dancers. The Desert festival is the occasion in
which the city celebrates the rich culture of the desert city and its
famous people. Musicians, dancers, craftsmen and tourists throng the city
to celebrate this yearly event. Legend has that Lord Krishna, the head of
Yadav Clan, foretold Arjuna, that a remote descendant of the Yadav Clan
would built this kingdom atop the Trikuta Hill. His saying was fulfilled
as Raja Jaisal, a descendant of the Yadav Clan and a Bhatti Rajput,
founded his capital on the Trikuta Hill.

What Happens During the Festival
The Desert festival displays the rich and colorful Rajasthani folk
culture. The snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats, folk performers visit
the festival in a large number. Camel is the important part of the
festival, as camel dances and competitions of camel acrobatics, camel
races and decor, camel polo, tug of war etc, dominates the festival.

people. The Rajasthani men and women dressed in bright colored costumes
