About Mount Abu

If you think about Rajasthan, your will suddenly imagine about the dry and arid land, devoid of all greenery, but the state is home to Mount Abu, one of the most beautiful hill stations in India. Mount Abu, is the only hill station in Rajasthan, situated at the southern tip of the Aravali range. Located at an altitude of 1,219 metres above sea level, Mount Abu is known for its cool climate and rich flora spreading along the hill. Apart from a hill station, Mount Abu is famous for its magnificent Dilwara Jain Temple, built in between 11th - 13th centuries. Legend goes that 'Abu' stands for the son of Himalaya, the powerful serpent who rescued the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, Nandi, from a chasm. The hill station of Mount Abu, has remain the home of many sages and saints, the most famous among them was Sage Vashishtha.

Major Attractions

Gaumukh Temple : The temple got its name from a natural spring flowing through a sculpted cow's head. The exquisite temple of Arbuda, stands against the beautiful mountain backdrop. The popular 'yagna' of sage Vashishtha was performed at this place. The marble statue of sacred bull Nandi stands nearby.

Delwara Jain Temple : These beautifully carved marble temple were built in between the11th and 13th century. Dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras, the Vimal Vasahi temple is the oldest of these temple. Built in 1031 by Vimal Shah, a merchant and representative of then Gujarat ruler, the Vimal Vasahi temple is an excellent example of temple architecture. Another famous temple is the Lun Vasahi Temple, built in 1231. Dedicated to the 22nd Tirthankaras-Neminath, the temple was built by two brothers Vastupal and Tejpal.

Adhar Devi Temple : The temple carved out of a massive rock can be reached by a flight of 360 stairs.

Sunset Point : The point offer the spectacular sight of the setting sun. During the sunset the hill appears golden.

Honeymoon Point : Honeymoon Point or Andra Point, provides the splendour views of the verdant valleys and surrounding plains.

Shri Raghunathji Temple : The temple dedicated to Shri Raghunathji, is situated close to the Nakki lake. It houses a beautiful statue of the deity, that was placed here in 14th century by Shri Ramanand, the famous Hindu preacher.

Gardens and Parks : Mount Abu is home to several beautiful parks namely Ashok Vatika, Gandhi park, Municipal Park, Shaitan Singh Park and Terrace Garden etc.

Museum and Art Gallery : The museum and art gallery situated at the Raj Bhawan has the collection of archaeological excavations dating back to 8th-12th century. The museum also houses Jain bronze carvings, brassworks etc.

Guru Shikhar Temple Mt Abu Guru Shikhar : Guru Shikhar is the highest peak of Mount Abu hills. The most beautiful peak of Mount Abu, has a magnificent temple.

Nakki Lake : Situated in the heart of town, at one end of the Mall. The lake situated amidst picturesque surroundings, has several islets, one can reach there by hiring boats. There are many rock formation around the lake, which are named as Toad Rock, Nun Rock, Nandi Rock and Camel Rock because of their resemblance to these figures.

How to reach there

By Air : Nearest airport is located at Udaipur, which is 185 kms from Mount Abu. Flights are available to Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur..

By Rail : Abu Road (27 Kms) is the nearest railhed, which falls on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Jaipur-Delhi line.

By Road : Mount Abu is connected to Abu Road by good roads. Regular buses ply between Abu Road and Mount Abu. Taxis and jeeps are also available from Abu Road.
