About Nainital

Nainital a small town located in Kumaon Hills of Uttaranchal, is surrounded by some outstanding tourist spots. Nainital is situated in a valley of the Gagar range, running east and west, bounded on the north by the peak of China, the Alma peak or Snow-View peak and the Sher-Ka-Danda to the east. Once the region was dotted with many lakes, and known as the 'City of 60 lakes or Chakta.' Most of the lakes have disappeared in the region in years, only few lakes left now. The hill station is dotted with small cottages, villas and bungalows. In fact the life the Hill station revolves around the lake of Naini. In addition to the Naini lake, there are other equally beautiful and attractive lakes. The hill station is not only famous for its peaks, but it also houses hundreds of ancient temples. The history of this lovely town, sails over the surface of the Naini Lake, which narrates the tale of rishis and sadhus. Nainital attracts a large number of visitors and tourists every year, because of its natural beauty and cool weather.

Major Attractions

Naina Devi Temple : The temple located on the northern side of the Naini lake is dedicated to goddess Sati.

Naini Lake Naini Lake (Naini Taal) : Naini Lake, the beautiful blue green lake is a major attraction. It is from this lake the city of Nainital derives its name. There is lovely settlement by the side of lake.

Snow View Point : Situated at a height of 2,270 meter above sea level the point offers the breathtaking views of the town and Himalayan range. Locate 3 Kms from the town,

the view point can be reached by the cable car or the ponies available at Mallital.

Hanuman Garhi : The famous temple of Hanuman is located 3 Kms from Nainital, at a height of 1,950 metres. The place offer the spectacular view of the setting sun.

Tiffin Top : Tiffin Top located 3 Kms away from Nainital, at an altitude of 2,290 metres provides the splendour view of the town along with Himalayas.

Land's End : The place located about 4 Kms from Nainital, at a height of 2,118 metres offer the breathtaking view of the plains and Khurpatal.

China Peak : The 2,611 metre high peak, located 6 Kms from town is the highest peak of Nainital. The peak is famous for magnificent bird's eye view of the Nainital town and the Himalayas, with vast expenses of the Terai regions of Kumaon.

Khurpatal : Khurpatal, located at a distance of 12 Kms from Nainital, is a beautiful spot. The 1,635 high place having clear water and good harvest of fishes, is considered to be angler's paradise.

BhimtalKilbury : Located 12 Kms away from Nainital, at an altitude of 2,528 metres, Kilbury is the ideal spot for weekend holidays. The place is popular for its varied flora and fauna, and it also offers the breathtaking view of the Himalayas.

Bhimtal : Situated at a distance of 22 Kms from Nainital, the lake is the largest lake in Nainital. Named after one of the Pandav brothers, Bhim, this lake lies at an altitude of 1371.6 metres above sea level. A small island is situated in the middle of the lake, Surrounded by crystal blue water of the lake, the island adds more beauty.

Sattal : Sattal, a group of seven small lakes is located at a distance of 23 Kms from Nainital. Situated at an altitude of 1,370 metres, Sattal offers the natural beauty at its best.

Nakuchiyatal : The beautiful lake lies 26 Kms from Nainital, at a height of 1,218 metres. The lake having nine corners is surrounded by dense forested hills, which provide complete peace from the hustle and bustle of the plains. Nauchiyatal is a bird watcher's paradise, as it attracts migratory birds.

Ranikhet : The beautiful hill station lies 60 Kms away from Nainital. Situated amidst the picturesque white peaks, Ranikhet is known for its pristine beauty. The beauty of Ranikhet lies in its simplicity, bestowed with pine tress, orchards and temples etc. The flowering plants in the hill station sometime confuse the people, as different branches of the same plant yield flowers of varied colours and fragrance.

How to reach there

By Air : Pantnagar (71 Kms) is the nearest airport. The airport is connected to Delhi, with Vayudoot services.

By Rail : The nearest railway station is Kathdgodam (35 Kms), which is connected to Delhi, Agra, Bareilly and Lucknow.

By Road : Good network of roads connect Nainital with Delhi (322 Kms), Bareilly (141 Kms) and Ranikhet (60 Kms) etc. The state transport and private operators run regular buses between Nainital and Delhi, Bareilly, Haridwar, Dehradun, Almora, Ranikhet and other important towns.
