Salim Singh Ki Haveli
The
haveli of Jaisalmer's Prime Minister Maharaja Rawal Gaj Singh-Salim
Singh was built in 1815. It has a beautiful blue cupola roof with
nicely carved brackets in the form of peacocks. This yellow stone
mansion is covered with delicate carvings and has an big balcony on
the top floor.
Gadi Sagar Lake
This lake south of city once held the town water supply. The scenic
rain water lake is surrounded by small temple and shrines. The lake is
an ideal spot for outings.
Tazia Tower
A delicate pagoda like structure rises from the Badal Mahal (Cloud
Palace). The tower rising in its five-tiered splendour, with each
storey having a nicely carved balcony has historical significance. The
Muslim craftsmen built it in the shape of a Tazia and gifted it to
their royal patron. The beautifully ornate Tazias carried out in
procession during Moharram by the Muslims.

Places to Visit around Jaisalmer
Lodurva
The ancient capital of Jaisalmer is located, at a distance of 16 Kms
from Jaisalmer. The place houses the Jain temple, is an important
pilgrim centre of the Jain community. At the main entrance the ornate
arches called as Toran are notable. Another attraction is a 'Kalptaru'
or a divine tree within the temple complex.
Akal Wood Fossil Park
The park situated just 17 kms from Jaisalmer, lies on the Barmer
Road. The park houses the fossilized remains of 180 million-year-old
forests, of the Jurassic period. The ticket charges to to visit the
Park is Rs 20 for foreigners and Rs 5 for locals.
Desert National Park
The park situated at a distance of 45 Kms from Jaisalmer known for
the ecosystem of the Thar Desert and its rich fauna. The sand dunes
form less than 20 percent of the Park, which consists of craggy rocks,
pavements and compact salt lake bottoms, inter-medial areas and fixed
dunes. The park is home to animals like the Blackbuck, Chinkara, Wolf,
Indian fox, Desert fox, Hare,Grey partridge, Blue tailed and green
bee-eaters, Drongos, and the great Indian Bustard.
Sam Sand Dunes
The
picturesque Sam Sand dunes are located at a distance of 42 Kms from
Jaisalmer. The ripples on the wind create a mirage that is a delight
for tourists. Against the backdrop of these sand dunes various
cultural programmes are organized. Apart the camel safaris provides
the real feel of the desert on the camel back.
Reaching Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer is connected by Air, Rail and Roads with the cities of
Rahasthan and other cities of the country.
Air : The convenient airport is Jodhpur (285 Kms).
The flights of Indian Airlines are available twice-weekly to Jodhpur
from Delhi.
Rail : Jodhpur is the nearest major railhead. A
direct train runs daily from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, except Wednesday.
Road : All buses run from Hotel Neeraj, there are
regular deluxe buses to Jodhpur and Bikaner. The distance of Jaisalmer
from important cities is Delhi (897 Kms), Jaipur (638 Kms), Jodhpur
(285 Kms), Ajmer (500 Kms) and Bikaner (330 Kms).
