.. Jagmohan Palace
The palace was converted to an art gallery in 1875 and exhibits
paintings dating back to that period. It displays the famous Mysore
golden leaf styled paintings. It has the collection of the paintings
of the late 19th century, including the paintings of Raja Ravi Verma
of Travancore and the Russian Painter Svetoslav Roerich.
.. Mysore Zoo
The zoo was set up in the 19th century under royal patronage. It
houses rare and exotic species of fauna in its lush green
surroundings. The zoo is known for breeding some of the rarest animals
in captivity.

.. St. Philomena's Church
The church built in the Gothic style is one of the largest churches
in the country. This is a beautiful Cathedral and a reminiscent of the
medieval architectural style. The stained glass windows and lofty
towers of the church are its major attractions.
.. Brindavan Gardens
Located at the Krishnarajasagar Dam, Brindavan gardens is one among
the best gardens in South India. The major attraction of the garden is
dancing fountains which are especially built to jump and dance with
the tune of music. The garden is open Monday -Friday 6.30 p.m - 7.25
and Saturday -Sunday 6.30 pm to 8.25 pm.

.. Chamundi Hills
The famous hills can be reaches by a 13 Kms road or by climbing 1,000
steps. Halfway up along the steps is monolithic statue of Nandi, the
sacred vehicle of Lord Shiva. At the hill top the 12th century
Chamundershwari temple is situated.
A gigantic statue of the demon Mahishasura stands nearby the temple.
The hills offer the splendour view of lakes parks and palaces of the
city.

- Daria Daulat Bagh
Located 16 Kms from Mysore, the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan was
built in 1784. Built in Indo-Sarcenic style the palace has ornate and
beautiful frescoes. It is now converted to a museum and speaks of
Tipu's valor and his losing battle against the British.
- Srirangapatna
The place 16 Kms northeast of Mysore was the capital city of Hyder
Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. The fort mostly in ruins tells of the
brave Tipu Sultan. It is here that Tipu charged at the British
soldiers with his legendary sword. The fort complex has a mosque and
the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. Gumbaz, the tomb of Tipu Sultan is
located outside the fort.
- Somnathpur
Situated 35 Kms away from Mysore, Somnathpur houses the largest of
the Hoysala Temples. The temple dedicated to Lord Chennakesava, was
built on traditional Hoysala temple style stands on a star- shape
base.

- Bandipur National Park
The park is situated at a distance of 80 Kms from Mysore city. It is
one of the most beautiful Wildlife centres in the country. The park is
home to rare species of animals and birds. The WWF has listed the park
for their project tigers (the scheme to protect tigers).
- Shivsamudra
Shivdamudra is located 85 Kms east of Mysore. It is the place where
the river Cauvery cascades down in two picturesque waterfalls. The 75
metre high water falls look more beautiful during the monsoons.
How to Reach Mysore
Mysore city has not its own airport, the city is well connected by
rail and road to capital city Bangalore and other towns of the state.
» Air : Bangalore (139 Kms) is the nearest
airport. The airlines operate domestic and international flights from
Bangalore. From Bangalore one has to reach Mysore by rail or road
routes.

Rail : Mysore railway station is connected to Bangalore and other
cities of the country. The train services are available daily between
Bangalore and Mysore. The Shatabadi Express runs between Mysore and
Chennai.
» Road : Good roads connect Mysore with rest
of the country. The Karnataka Road Transport Corporation as well as
private buses run regularly from Bangalore and other cities. The
distance of important cities from Mysore are Bangalore (140 Kms),
Bandipur (81 Kms), Brindavan (28 Kms), Hassan (120 Kms), Mudumalai (98
Kms), Nagarhole (80 Kms) and Ooty (159 Kms).
